Mother’s Day Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12 One of God’s first commandments to the ancient Israelites was to “honor your father and mother.” Mothers in the Bible have honored roles. Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
Motherhood has always been one of the most important roles in a society. Without mothers to birth, nurture, and love their children, we would not have future generations.
Psalms 139:13 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Mothers, for many years, stayed in the home. Those women were truly selfless, giving up their dreams and career goals to ensure that their children were loved and well-cared for.
The Bible contains many verses that extol the virtues of mothers: patience, love, mercy and kindness. Proverbs 14:1 says, “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”
Thank God for your mother and for the life you now have. Proverbs 23:25 says, “May she who gave you birth rejoice!”
